A Farewell Toast to The Grapevine

As they say, all good things must come to an end. And if you relished the idea of a wine store that gave expert, personal guidance in the selection and enjoyment of domestic wine, was a little slice of oenophile heaven.

However, after 23 years at his Cedar-Fairmount location, owner Bob Fishman decided to close his store (a new tenant has not yet been identified) and move on to other things.

“I eventually just got tired of working six or seven days a week,” he explained

But he looks back fondly on the relationships he treasures, and on the city where his business resided.

“It was wonderful, and I’ll miss our customers. Cleveland Heights is a special place to do business," said Fishman, a Beachwood resident. "You meet people from all over the world.”

As for the future, Fishman said he may pursue the health and wellness field.

“I lost about 70 pounds eight years ago, and that made me want to help motivate people to live a healthier lifestyle,” he said. 

Of course, that lifestyle, for Fishman, still includes his favorite beverage. His nectar of choice is full-bodied and spicy Syrah. 

“I enjoy some wine every day.”
