Art Modell Has Died: What's Your Reaction?
Art Modell, the former owner of the Cleveland Browns who moved the team to Baltimore, has died at age 87. How do you react to his death?
Art Modell, the man who took the Browns from Cleveland, has died at 87.
Modell is a villain in Cleveland, probably the only sports figure reviled more than LeBron James.
What's your reaction to Modell's death? The man moved the beloved Browns and won a Super Bowl in Baltimore. Before that, he led the Browns for decades and helped build the NFL into what it is today.
React in the comments.

Also, lets be clear that Mayor Mike White and Governor George Voinovich didnt hellp the owner at the time. All the money went into GATEWAY for the Indians and Cavs new locations, which is true. They literally offered him a refurbishment of Municipal which in hindsight would have been nice. I dont really blame it all on him. But it did suck.

Maybe now the team's curse to be the NFL's perpetual 32nd place organization will be lifted.

@8675309abbott said on Twitter that it's "the Browns first win of the season." And posted a video of the Munchkins in "Wizard of Oz" singing "Ding Dong The Witch is Dead."

Just to be contrarian:
Didn't Art Modell wind up with a SUPERBOWL RING after he left Cleveland?
Who's laughing now?

Yep. That ring should have been Cleveland's.
That's why we hate him so much. (One reason, anyway.)

Yes, he left. He was broke. I was angry! I was disgusted! I HATED THAT HE FIRED PAUL BROWN.....He was protecting his family. How many of us wouldn't grab $52 Milllion.... JUST TO MOVE?. Be honest!! HE HAD TO TAKE OUT A LOAN TO PAY ANDRE RISON'S DEAL! HE WANTED TO WIN. Well, you say he could have sold. Yeah, to who? Who was going to buy the Browns, and keep them in Cleveland, with that old rickety stadium to play in? How much did he donate to Cleveland charities, to the Cleveland Clinic? If you were alive in 1970 and saw the VERY first Monday night Football game in Cleveland, Ohio, as the Browns beat the NY Jets, and Joe Namath 30-20. Why we can enjoy football on TV every Sunday, Sunday Night, Monday Night, and certain Thursdays as well! Art did, and was a part of that as well! He was a key in many philanthropic ventures i.e. The Rock n Roll hall of Fame. I don't think he ever got that money back, either. The Indian's and Cavs got new homes. Art's office had water pipes leaking into it! Was it his fault that his tenant, the Indian's were drawing 7,200 a night, if that, at the old stadium?
He could have taken the team name and colors to Baltimore. He did not! (Former Cleveland Mayor Mike White took the credit for that. Bollocks!!) So that we could get another "Browns" team in Cleveland WITH OUR SAME COLORS! The Baltimore Browns would have sounded great......Better than the Ravens. Get over it. The man belongs in the PROFESSIONAL Football Hall of Fame!

When Pete Rose gets in the Baseball Hall of Fame.....I'll think about poor misunderstood Art Modell. Look what art did for football here in Cleveland, league level = good, Cleveland level a stab in the back.

All the comments are so nasty. Art Modell knew he had a loosing team and why wouldn't he leave Cleveland and go to Baltimore. At least he had his dream come true of winning the super bowl.
Cleveland will never win a super bowl as they won't pay the big buck for decent players or coaches.

I love the Browns, but I am not going to say idiotic things about someone who just passed away. I didn't like the fact that he took the Browns out of Cleveland, but he didn't hurt or kill anyone so I am not going to wish the man ill will.

Bruce Drennan doesn't think Art Modell Should get a moment of silence because of "'Causing an embarassing Scine in Cleveland." Due to the amount of intoxicated fans at the game! Bollocks!
Bruce! Art Modell deserves a moment of silence not just at Cleveland Browns Stadium, but throughout Cleveland, and all stadiums at all NFL games.
If your only argument is to how a bunch of fans will react that are already intoxicated by the beginning of the game, the national anthem......well ........Then I really do not consider them true Brown's fans! They are drunken buffoons!
What kind of people do we have in this area where people have to carry such hatred and bitterness!
To hell with the drunks, and worrying about a "Another Scene in Cleveland.'
I respect you much too much to think that you could honestly hide behind an excuse like that! Good God

I'm sorry. I can't participate in mourning Art Modell. He broke my heart. My daddy passed his great love of the Cleveland Browns down to me. Art took that away in 1996 in the middle of the night. I still love my Brownies, but it isn't the same. 'May he find Heaven, sure, but never Canton' ... Vince Grzegorek, Cleveland Scene. Well said, Vince.

Yes he did make one major mistake moving the team and we know he had little financial support to make updates and changes that would have kept the team here... but he did a number of things in contributing to the city's growth/needs (cleveland clinic, hospice..) and he brought the NFL to television

Our nation is crumbling to the ground right before our very eyes, everyday a little worse, and all people seem to care about is football. This certainly explains a lot when it comes to what's wrong in our society. People's priorities are totally backwards.
