Cleveland Heights Couple Plans to Open a New Wine Store

Adam and Susan Fleischer are in the process of bringing The Wine Spot to the city

After recently at Cedar Fairmount, our town’s oenophiles were justifiably sad.

But it has been claimed that when one door closes, another always opens. And when it comes to wine lovers in Cleveland Heights, it may be another door that’s about to open — to the sound of a cork popping.

A new retail wine store, The Wine Spot, is the project of  and CSU grad Adam Fleischer. Fleischer, his wife Susan and their two grade-school-age children have been longtime local residents in this community. But wine is a new venture.

“We are in the process of finding a location in the Heights, and we hope to be open for customers by this fall,” Fleischer said.

Because both Adam and Susan have been wine aficionados for years, it seemed like the perfect business to start.

“And with The Grapevine closing recently, there was an opportunity," he said. "We think we can fill that void.”

It’s quite a leap, because Adam Fleischer has spent most of his 20-year career in the corporate world, most recently as a senior vice president of sales in the medical records field. But his job required non-stop travel, and he felt he was ready for a more family-centered lifestyle.

Still, there are risks.

“Clearly, there’s a lack of stability in retail that can be challenging," he said. "But with the full support of Susan and many friends and neighbors, I think we have a great chance of success.”

As for the projected store, Fleischer sees The Wine Spot as a very approachable venue for customers.

“We want our store to be fun and non-stuffy. We will offer wine labels from all over the world, along with a refreshing selection of microbrews.

“It will be a place where people will feel comfortable, where they can learn about wines and find what they want at an affordable price.”

But what makes Fleischer most optimistic is the city where he plans on opening his store.

“Cleveland Heights has a great mix of people, with a wide variety of young professionals and those who really know and appreciate wine," he said.

By integrating store activities with other groups and businesses in the area, offering wine tastings, and hosting visits by various winemakers, the Fleischers plan to make The Wine Spot a fixture here for many years.

When The Wine Spot secures a location and sets a grand opening date, Cleveland Heights Patch will pass along the information and update this article. You can follow Adam and Susan's progress on their Facebook Page
