The Cleveland Heights-University Heights School Board appointed Cleveland Heights resident Robert Fischer to the Heights Libraries board at its May 1 meeting.

Fischer replaces Cardala Carter, who resigned in May to take a job as Nestle's digital marketing project manager in New York. She served three-and-a-half years of a seven year term. Fischer’s term will end in 2015.

Fischer, who has lived in Cleveland Heights for 10 years, is a research associate professor at the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University and co-director of the Center on Urban Poverty and Community Development at the school.

“I want to ensure that the library maintains its reputation for high quality service and extensive holdings,” Fischer stated in his application. “As libraries move to greater emphasis on electronic and alternative media, I want to ensure that the Library continues to have a key role as a physical location and civic space.”
