Dog Walking Pilot Could Be Approved Tonight

Cleveland Heights City Council expected to vote on legislation to allow dog-walking in Cain Park beginning in April

Cleveland Heights City Council is expected to vote on legislation that would allow dogs in Cain Park under certain restrictions.

The Dog Project, modeled after a program in Lakewood that culminated in the abolishment of dog prohibitions in the city's parks, needs a majority vote from council to pass.

The pilot program would allow leashed dogs in the park for six months.

The group is seeking volunteers to refill dog waste bags at the parks during the trial, which would take place from April 15 to October 15.

The proposal follows a survey last year about whether dogs should be allowed in Cain Park.

Great job by the citizens for getting this item this far.

Shame on council for making such a mountain out of a molehill.

They pass all kinds of stuff every session as "Emergency" legislation, seemingly without regard to costs or community benefits. (Like the $50,000 loan and $27,000 in grants to the building owner on Cedar-Lee where "Joey's" restaurant will be opening.)

Here, they soooo graciously allow a 6 month pilot, and offer no $ or manpower.

They all gotta go in November.

There will be so many rules and constraints that I seriously doubt that anyone will do much dog walking in Cain Park. It will only take one or two complaints and the program will be curtailed (pretty good pun but not intended).
