The Shoppes at Fairmount will soon have a new interior design and home furnishings boutique.
duoHome is moving to 3479 Fairmount Blvd. from its current location at Gordon Square in Cleveland, where co-owner Tim Kempf hopes his shop will benefit from the area's similar businesses, namely, Paul Hamlin Interiors and Paysage.
"We really do think that once we move to that block, that, in essence, it will create a dedicated retail district for the Greater Cleveland area."
Kempf and his business partner Scott Suskowicz opened duoHome on W. 65th nearly six years ago after working together at Beachwood's Ohio Design Center. Today, the Gordon Square district has more fashion retail than businesses like duoHome.
But, he said, it's a difficult decision. "It really is heartbreaking for us to leave here. The [Gordon Square] neighborhood has really been welcoming to us."
duoHome pairs a whole service interior design firm with a retail storefront. Kempf describes the business' style as "casual, contemporary interior design."
"We try to sell things that are well-designed and high style, but still reasonably priced," Kempf added. He loves to find a great deal, he said, like designer pillows he has in stock now that he got at a steal — and he's selling them at half their regular retail price.
duoHome is expected to open in Cleveland Heights April 1. Its regular business hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. It stays open until 7 p.m. Thursdays and is closed Sundays.
"I think it will be a lot of fun," Kempf said. "We're super excited to be joining that block."
