Get Out: Raul Malo Performs, Anti-Flag Show and Free Orchestra Concert

Events, concerts and shows this weekend in and around the Heights

 

RAUL MALO PERFORMS AT NIGHTTOWN

Where/When: Nighttown/ Friday, 9 p.m.

Why Go: Raul Malo is the singer/songwriter, guitarist and lead vocalist from the Maverick. He’ll perform songs from his new album, Sinners and Saints, with his Latin and jazz-infused style.

Price: $25

ORCHESTRA AND CHORALE CONCERT

Where/When: Church of the Gesu/ Sunday, 3 p.m.

Why Go: The Heights Chamber Orchestra and Western Reserve Chorale will join forces to perform a free concert. A light reception will follow.

Price: Free

ANTI-FLAG AT GROG SHOP

Where/When: Grog Shop/ Friday, 7 p.m.

Why Go: Punk rock mainstays Anti-Flag will perform at the Grog Shop Friday. Made famous in the '90s as much for their music as their criticism of U.S. government policy, Anti-Flag has been a favorite in the genre for more than two decades. Also featuring bands The Flatliners, Lemuria and Hostage Calm.

Price: $15 advance, $18 day of show

CLEVELAND ASIAN FESTIVAL

Where/When: Asiatown/ Saturday and Sunday,  1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Why Go: Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month at the Cleveland Asian Festival. The event features an egg roll eating contest, live performances including martial arts demonstrations, inflatable sumo wrestling, craft area, storytelling, karaoke and more than 60 shops and stands. Asian-American celebrities Dat Phan, a winner of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, will perform two shows Saturday at 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. and actress Yin Chang from the Disney movie Prom will also make an appearance.

ALAN COX SHOW COMEDY TOUR

Where/When: House of Blues/ Friday, 10:30 p.m.

Why Go: After the success of last year’s show, a second installment of Cleveland’s most popular comedians will again come to the House of Blues. The show will be led by the host of one of Cleveland’s most popular afternoon radio show’s, Alan Cox, of WMMS’ The Alan Cox Show, and feature Mike Polk, made famous for his Cleveland Tourism videos and the city’s most recognizable funnymen: Jim Tews, who recently moved to New York City and writes for the funny online site, Holy Taco; Chad Zumock, Cox’s sidekick and a regular in local comedy clubs; and Bill Squire, a Medina native who has won both the Car Crash Comedy Contest in New York and Give Us Your Best on Comedy Central.

Price: $12 in advance, $15 day of show
