Heights High wrestlers compete in CSU tournament
Members of the Cleveland Heights High School junior varsity wrestling team make it to fourth round
The Cleveland Heights High School wrestling team spent most of the day Wednesday at a tournament at Cleveland State University with 37 teams. The team had wins in every weight class, and some wrestlers lasted until the fourth round, said Coach Willie Newton.
"So far, it's the best season tournament we've had," said Newton, who added that it was the third time they went to what's known as the CSU Holiday Tournament or the Cleveland State Wrestling Battle. "We had a first-round win this year, and last year we didn't have that."
Two members of the junior varsity team qualified for varsity spots. Freshman Tyler Maxey and sophomore George Chaney will compete in the 119 lb and 130 lb weight classes respectively at the Lorain Holiday Classic on Dec. 28.
