Myxx Celebrates Grand Opening in Cleveland Heights Tonight
Cleveland Heights Mayor Ed Kelley will cut the ribbon at 6 p.m.
Kim Lisboa wants everyone to take it easy.
The catch phrase for her new business on Cedar Road is drink, dine and dégagé.
“Dégagé is a French word for relax and unwind,” Lisboa said.
Myxx is celebrating its grand opening tonight from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., and Cleveland Heights Mayor Ed Kelley is cutting the ribbon at 6 p.m.
The massive, 9,600-square-foot space in the Cedar Fairmount business district used to be home to Jillian’s billiards club, which closed earlier this year. It has been converted into a restaurant, bar and lounge.
“Billiards places have seemed to kind of fall by the wayside. You don’t see that same interest in getting friends together and playing pool. Something that’s more restaurant-focused will do well,” said Howard Thompson, economic development director for Cleveland Heights. “I think what she’s trying to do there is something a bit more upscale than the typical bar/restaurant, and that would flow with the other entities in that district.”
Red, decorative lamps are suspended from the ceiling above hardwood floors. Local artwork will decorate the space, and the giant granite-topped bar could probably seat 40 to 50 people. People can dine in white chairs and tables or lounge on the leather furniture.
The bar/restaurant will offer live entertainment Thursday through Saturday, and Lisboa envisions it as a place where people can catch the big game (they’ll have flat screen TVs) or dance with friends, an eclectic “myxx” of everything. People can also reserve a portion of the space for special events.
Customers can leave their jackets at the coat check and there will be valet parking available, in addition to the 40 parking spots behind the building.
“We were trying to just make it a very fun, yet chic New York, Manhattan, South Beach feel in Cleveland Heights,” said Lisboa, who went to college in New York and has owned the building since the '90s. “Cleveland Heights needed this — a place to hang out and a place to dance and meet people.”
The menu features small plates, appetizers, entrées, salads, sandwiches and soup. Items include beer and cheddar cheese chowder, filet, sea scallops, lamb, and stuffed burgers. Lisboa said there will also be a late-night menu for people to soak up some of the booze they had earlier in the evening.
Bar manager Dan Birt said they’ll offer a variety of brews, wines and specialty cocktails as well, including a martini that tastes like a marshmallow and is topped off with a roasted, white fluffy treat.
