Name, year, age, school at Heights High: Leondra Taylor, senior, 17, Mosaic

School activities you are involved in: Student council, class council and tennis.

What's the most important extracurricular activity you participate in and why? I participate in class and student council (president of both) because I like to organize events and help at community events. It keeps me active and allows me to have great communication skills and opens doors for great networking.

What's your favorite academic class and why? My favorite academic class would definitely be math. I enjoy math because it challenges you at a whole other level.

What do you like most about Heights High? What makes it special? I like the diversity of Cleveland Heights High. I love learning about different cultures, especially about our foreign exchange students. The wonderful staff makes Heights special. To mention a few: Kristen Kelly, Merinda Davis, Debbie Holland, Dulcie Devitt, Lunetta Clark, Melissa Strouth, Joseph Nohra, Joe Bagatti, Bryan Loretz, James Reed and Joy Henderson.

What accomplishment are you most proud of? I'm most proud of my anti-bullying project that we did at all of the elementary schools in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District. We, student council, had very good feedback and outcomes from this project. (Superintendent Douglas Heuer honored Leondra during his State of the Schools speech in January and said because of her and others' anti-bullying efforts, bullying across the district is down by 40 percent.)

What volunteer activities are you involved in? Childcare for all of the community facilities (master plan) meetings, Egg Hunt, Earth Day run, Relay for Life, car washes and I volunteer in the main office.

What are your plans after high school? I'm attending the University of Toledo to study business and will eventually get my MBA.

What's the most important piece of advice you've ever received that you'd like to pass on to others? Motivation has to start with yourself.

Leondra Taylor is such a remarkable young lady. She supersedes any project, event, or activity she touches. Her growth into leadership has set the bar for the students here at Tiger Nation. She will sincerely be missed and I wish “nothing less than the best” for her!!
