New CH-UH Schools Tiger Mascot: What Do You Think?
The school district is rolling out its new Tiger Nation mascot. Share your thoughts on the new image.
The Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District unveiled its new "Tiger Nation" mascot at the School Board meeting Tuesday.
Throughout the years, individual schools had their own mascots and colors. Once the district became "Tiger Nation," they created their own versions of the Tigers, said Angee Shaker, communications and community engagement director for CH-UH.
"Some were fierce, some were babyish, some used a paw print, some used a tiger scratch. As part of our branding, we wanted to make sure it’s ours and professional," she said. “We felt this new and consistent tiger image would work across all grade levels PK-12. It’s something we can all be proud of.”
Drew Dallet at Boom Creative designed the mascot using suggestions from each building, Shaker said.
Students and district employees are celebrating the new mascot with pep rallies and spirit days, and banners with the new image are hanging in each building.
A new online store selling merchandise with the new image, www.heightsgear.com, was recently launched in partnership with the Heights Alumni Foundation. Eric Silverman, Cleveland Heights High School alumni foundation president, presented the new gear people can purchase at the board meeting.
So what do you think about the new mascot and image? Tell us in the comments and take our poll.

I like it OK -- but i have to say it seems more geared for the grade schools than the high school which actually has "Tigers" for its nickname and logo. The logo is sort of kittenish and adorable. Not sure if that's what the Heights High Tiger athletic teams have in mind when they take the court/field/ice. A little bit too much image-consciousness going on by an overly fuss-budget administration here. We'll learn to live with it, though. Especially anyone under the age of 12.

As a graduate of Heights High, parent of three Heights graduates, past employee of the school system, and past president of the Heights High Alumni Association, I am loosing all faith I had in this system. First, I think this Tiger Nation logo may be fine for the elementary school but it is not fine for the high school. It looks like a cat and not a tiger. The tiger was strong a mighty - this is not. And when did we become the tiger nation. Why not worry about test scores and fixing the buildings. Not about a logo. Stop wasting money on things that don't need to be fixed. I may have voted for my last levy! Paula Botkin '67

I was referring to Angee Shaker, who told me that Drew designed the logo, but I'll clarify this in case anyone else read it that way! Thanks for reading, Jay.

Not nearly fierce enough. Looks like it has a smirk on its face?

for all of those who are interested and for clarification... the #1 goal of the design was to create a tiger logo that would work from ages K-12. thats a very wide range. your talking 5 years to 18 years of age. if the logo were more "mighty" it wouldnt work for younger students. and vice-versa. our solution works extremely well for the broad range in which we were given.

This logo works for elementary and maybe middle school, but definitely not a high school team logo. It should remain the original tiger logo. I agree with an earlier post to stop trying to fix things that don't need to be fixed.
