Local counterculture veterans talk about their generation
Coventry Village has grown up in its way. Now it's more hip than hippie, more bohemian than fringe.
But in the '60s, '70s and even into the '80s, the shopping district was the heart of the area's counterculture. Pioneers from those days gathered to talk reminisce at the Coventry Village Reunion at Coventry P.E.A.C.E Park on Saturday.
About 75 people flowed through, said Marcia Polevoi. She is the former owner of the High Tide/Rock Bottom store, and a reunion organizer. Harvey Pekar, the person who inspired the event, died in 2010. Coventry regulars decided to organize the gathering while attending his funeral, Polevoi said.
