Annual event raises money for research into the type of breast cancer that took Diana Hyland's life
Diana Hyland beat breast cancer once, but she couldn't defeat the disease when it returned. Yet, she left more than memories.
Shortly before she died in 2008, Hyland and her family established the Diana Hyland Miracle Fund. The organization raises money for research into metastatic breast cancer, which occurs when breast cancer cells have spread to other organs.
On May 22, more than 200 participants gathered at for the third annual event. Tara Hyland, Diana's daughter, estimated the fund has raised about $1.2 million. The money will go toward establishing an endowed chair for research in recurrent breast cancer at University Hospitals.
