What Should Replace MYXX Once It Closes?
The Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas ordered MYXX to shut down by Oct. 1 at a hearing Sept. 12. What would you like to see in the Cedar Fairmount space?
A Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court judge has issued an order for MYXX to shut down on or by Oct. 1, 2012.
Cleveland Heights Police, city officials and nearby businesses have reported problems there since at least June 17 when a fight broke out, a car struck an officer and 300 people spilled out into the Cedar Fairmount intersection after the establishment closed.
Read about past events leading up to the court's decision:
Sept. 7: More Than a Dozen Officers Called To Calm Disturbance At MYXX
Aug. 7: Cleveland Heights City Council Declares MYXX a Nuisance
June 28: Police Shut Down MYXX For One Evening
June 22: Fight Erupts At MYXX, Officer Struck By Car
According to council documents, the business was recently sold by order of federal court from Cedar-Fairmount Realty, Ltd. to JDI Loans, LLC. Kim Lisboa, the former owner, was still operating the business.
Now the question is, what should replace MYXX?
Several readers have weighed in on what would work best in the 9,600-square-foot facility that used to be home to Jillian's:
I hope whatever happens next in that space brings back casual activities like pool and ping pong. I've been missing that since Jillian's left.
Here's to hoping that new owners have the sense to split Myxx into 2 or 3 separate places - a restaurant this big is a recipe for disaster unless they have the client base to host weddings or other well-organized events there. It's hard to go wrong with a cafe or smaller-size restaurant in CH these days. And locals would surely support the change.
That would be a good spot for a Best & Co. clothing store or a Ski Haus.
Now it's your turn. What do you think the Cedar Fairmount Business District needs? What would do well there? Tell us in the comments section below.

Cleveland Heights needs to have a store that focuses on upcycled, recycled, natural-made, and sustainable products. This could be a small garden-type of store that sells chicks, chicken supplies, composting materials, garden supplies and offers classes on beekeeping, making chicken coops, canning, etc., or it could be a store that sells natural-made toys and clothing for babies/children, or it could be a store that sells a nice selection of fabrics/yarns etc. for making clothing. All of these support and promote Cleveland Heights's new sustainable development zoning amendment.
Cleveland Heights also desperately needs a VEGAN and VEGETARIAN restaurant. Cleveland is sorely lacking in this area. Having such a restaurant would bring people from various parts of Cleveland to Cleveland Heights.

How about a thrift store - yes sustainable is nice but not everyone can afford that sort of store. Maybe something that also would have a good tie to Case since that is within walking distance.

I doubt it will be retail and it definitely won't be a Trader Joe's. Trader Joe's would require ample parking adjacent to the building. Chicken supplies in Cedarmount? Are you kidding?
Considering the neighborhood's most successful businesses are restaurants- that's probably where it will go. The Neighborhood is upscale -and near to Case. So it will cater to these markets. It's a little big for a Vegan restaurant- but it's not out of the question.
It will most likely be another bar.

I think the space almost has to be divided up. I could see a vegan or vegetarian restaurant too. Chickens and supplies...no. Please no phone stores or salons. I would love a Mexican restaruant that is affordable. You can't put anything in there that is going into the South Euclid development on Cedar or Warrensville. I would be very interested what ideas others might have for the space.

A café/book store. [gasp!] Yes, some people still want books to read & a place to read them!

One thing is certain: It cannot remain the type of club that it is now, even under new management. It's not right for the market and it wasn't from the beginning.
Subdivide it into two spaces. A re-worked bar/pool hall that serves food (limited menu), catering to serious players on one side (on the upscale side, with nice furniture) and a gym or dance studio on the other.
There's already a restaurant that caters to vegans next door. It's called Aladdin's. There are others. See link here: http://www.urbanspoon.com/nf/16/1508/1561/Cleveland/Cleveland-Heights/Vegetarian-Restaurants --No, not sorely lacking.
Chickens and supplies? Why not goats, sheep and pigs while we're at it? . . Seriously? This isn't Chesterland.
I like the cafe/bookstore idea, but I'm not sure it could generate the necessary revenue. Still, a relaxing spot to hang out, study and read would be a nice addition to the neighborhood. (Sorry, Starbucks, but it's just too "busy" there.)
There are certainly some possiblities with a space like that.

Wow it looks really nice I have not had chance to see what it looks like or even heard of myxx until this morning on the news. It is sad that it as to go due to other people not being able to control themselves.
Taken a look at the pictures it would be nice to see it stay around for socail gatherings like weddingsm birthday partys, or even a coffee shop where people can study and relax, I wish I had chance to try their food.

Could this be a good venue for seminars, technical training, wedding receptions, etc., especially with on-site catering: sort of a mini "Executive Caterers"? The space itself does seem kind of clunky, so it might be best to subdivide. Or perhaps it will become the new site of the Luna Cafe which has certainly hit all the right notes. There are serious economic concerns with adding another bookstore when Appletree down the block is already fighting for survival thanks to Amazon. Based on historic neighborhood closures, here are some uses we're not likely to see: drugstore, sporting goods outlet, women's tailored fashions: they've all been there, done that!

Starbucks should move from their too small spot down the street. Or maybe Phoenix Coffee should take over in combination with a bookstore. Either of these operators would be a quick and easy fix.
But a coffee venue would be underutilizing the space. In its best and higgest use it should house a great high end restaurant. Are you listening Mssrs Bruel and Symon?

ive been saying forever it needs to be split into multiple use, it will get another eatery in there because it already has the expensive equipment that brings it up to code for a restaurant.
