Everywhere I Look For Leadership In CH, I See Happy Mediocrity

I'll be brief.

"Sharrows" is how Cleveland Heights is going to make our city bike-friendly for the 21st Century.

And Planing Director Wong is OK with this, and Councilperson Dunbar is OK with this.

As far as I can tell, Mr. Wong has submitted applications for $3 million form NOACA for two "streetscape" projects that are nothing but band aids that make Cedar-Lee & Cedar-Fairmount better for the merchants.

Period. End of story.

But the joke is just starting.

This is the definition of "Sharrows":

"This marking is placed in the center of a travel lane to indicate that a bicyclist may use the full lane."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shared_lane_marking

It's time we demanded better from our elected represetantives.

No vision. No leadership. No nothing.

You are absolutely right, Garry. One wonders why the formerly engaged citizenry has turned into the zombie sheeple in the last decade. Do you think that the undeniable decline in the city and public schools would be tolerated in say Beachwood? I would safely say no. All one needs to know about this city nowadays is look into all the living rooms after 5 pm when it turns dark and without fail you will see the big screen tv on, sedating the masses with "Dancing with the Stars" and the like. This can be tolerated in Solon where there is enough tax dollars, but in a city like ours, it just leads to further decline, and unfortunately, the way I see it, the East Clevelandization of this once proud suburb.

Well, I'm focused on CH, and how the "leadership" is letting us down.

Yes, they are letting us down, but they can afford to as there is no organized opposition. In this leadership vacuum at best you will get mediocrity and at worst disasters like Oakwood/Walmart or the ill conceived school rebuilding plan where the "yes" people get all the input.

CH's Richard Wong and the consulting manager boasted about the 700 surveys that were submitted by concerned citizens.

I'll bet such extensive "sharrows" and the lack of bike lanes/trails was *not* what We The People said we wanted.
