Help celebrate President James A. Garfield’s heritage and his 181th birthday on Nov. 17th with a wreath laying ceremony (2:00 p.m.). Brigadier General Alton G. Berry, Commanding General of the 88th Regional Support Command, keynote speaker, will place a wreath at the monument on behalf of the President of the United States. He will be assisted by Mr. Rudolph H. Garfield, great grandson of President Garfield. Mr. Tom Garfield, the great, great, great grandson of the President will play Amazing Grace on the bagpipes as the wreath is escorted into the monument. More About Lake View Cemetery
Lakeview Cemetery is a 285-acre, historic cemetery that has been a staple of Cleveland since 1869. It is the final resting place to James A. Garfield, along with more than 100,000 people, and has an impressive collection of trees and other plants in a spacious botanical collection in the middle of otherwise urban terrain. Guests are welcome to explore the cemetery daily while the gates are open from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. The Cemetery Association offers many services for the recently deceased including vaults, community mausoleums, cremation and special veteran services.
