While the symbols on a treasure map may be expected to lead to the location of the hidden treasure, the decorative border of a title page is not usually suspected of containing hidden meaning. But in the case of Tolkien, the title pages of his works actually reveal the contents of each book, albeit in code! Using Anglo-Saxon runes and the Angerthas and Tengwar of his own creation, J.R.R. Tolkien created secret messages within the texts of his books and on the title pages of each volume. In this program we will delve into the many mysterious runes used by Tolkien, decipher the Hobbit treasure map, and ferret out the secret messages inscribed upon the title pages of his books.

More About Heights Libraries Lee Road Branch
Heights Libraries Lee Road Branch is the main library serving Cleveland Heights and University Heights residents. The facility includes separate areas for children, teens and adults; individual conference rooms; and computers and copy and fax machines. The more than 40-year-old building was renovated and re-opened in 2006 with a pedestrian walkway above Lee Road, improvements to the interior, and advancements in technology. The library offers services and programs such as job search assistance, teen clubs, book discussions and more. Classes with subjects as diverse as comic book appreciation and knitting are also available.
