The Lake View Cemetery remembers the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War, with our Veterans of the Civil War Walking Tour. Many of the brave soldiers who fought in America’s Civil War are buried at The Lake View Cemetery, including President James A. Garfield, who commanded the 42nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry and Major General Mortimer D. Leggett. Some of the other veterans we will learn about will include James Walker who perished as a result of the First Battle of Bull Run, Oliver Hazard Payne who led the 124th OVI and was seriously injured at Chickamauga and the frail 61 year old lady who organized the Northeast Ohio Soldier’s Aid Society. This tour will be led by Marjorie Wilson, local historian and active member of the Cleveland Civil War Roundtable where she also served as a member of the Executive Committee.
