University Hospitals Richmond Medical Center opens new comprehensive Breast Health Center

Surgeon Lisa M. Rock, MD, transitions to Medical Director, focuses full-time on breast care

Richmond Heights, Ohio
– On January 1, University Hospitals (UH) Richmond Medical Center, a campus of UH Regional Hospitals, expanded its array of breast care services with the opening of a comprehensive Breast Health Center. Simultaneously, Lisa M. Rock, MD, FACS, who has 16 years of surgical experience and has practiced at UH Richmond Medical Center for more than a decade, transitioned to Medical Director of the new facility.

Prior to January 1, the care of benign breast disease and breast cancer made up about 60 percent of Dr. Rock’s clinical services. She will now dedicate 100 percent of her practice to breast care. “There is a need in the area UH Richmond Medical Center serves for expanded breast health care,” says Dr. Rock, a board certified surgeon. “For the first time, the hospital offers women a specialized Breast Health Center where patients can receive all of their care, from screening mammograms and ultrasounds, to yearly exams and follow-ups, to diagnostic procedures and breast cancer surgeries. Every aspect of breast care is now accessible in one location, close to home.”

The new Breast Health Center is in the process of being accredited by the American College of Surgeons’ National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, which is dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care and monitoring of outcomes of patients with breast disease. “As an accredited Breast Center, the new UH Richmond Medical Center facility will be nationally recognized for providing patients access to a complete range of diagnostic and treatment tools as well as a multidisciplinary team that includes surgeons, oncologists, pathologists and radiologists,” says Dr. Rock.

In addition to state-of-the-art digital mammography and breast ultrasound, the Breast Health Center will soon offer breast MRI. “Digital mammography is our best screening tool,” says Dr. Rock. “However, for patients who are at high risk for breast cancer or who have been diagnosed, MRI provides detailed breast tissue information that may not be revealed with a screening mammogram.”
