90 Years in 90 Days: Al Oberst Remembers the Veterans

90 photos that define Cleveland Heights

Cleveland Heights officially became a city in 1921. Cleveland Heights Patch is by compiling 90 photos to create an album of the city's past and present. We'll run the feature for 90 days, one photo at a time.

On Tuesday, right before Veterans' Day, Al Oberst took time to re-embed a plaque memorializing World War I veteran Fred Kramer. The plaque is planted on North Park Boulevard, just east of Woodmere Drive. Beginning in 1918, 850 plaques were embedded along a nine-mile stretch from Gordon Park in Cleveland, along North Park Boulevard into Shaker Heights. Now, about 250 tablets remain, Oberst said.

Oberst is looking for information about Kramer. If you have something to share, please post in the comments. You can also email Oberst at knuteojcp@webtv.net.
