90 Years in 90 Days: Card Catalog at the Lee Road Library

90 photos that define Cleveland Heights

Cleveland Heights officially became a city in 1921. Cleveland Heights Patch is by compiling 90 photos to create an album of the city's past and present. We'll run the feature for 90 days, one photo at a time.

Today's photo from the depicts the era before the digital revolution. It was back when hard copies reigned, a cloud was only located in the sky and the mainframe was the latest in computer technology. The patrons in the photo are browsing the card catalogs.

The drawers were filled with small cards printed with the title of the book, its author and its call number. Patrons copied the information by hand, and went to the stacks to find the publications they wanted.
