90 Years in 90 Days: Golden Jubilee of Cleveland Heights

90 photos that define Cleveland Heights

Cleveland Heights officially became a city in 1921. Cleveland Heights Patch is by compiling 90 photos to create an album of the city's past and present. We'll run the feature for 90 days, one photo at a time.

Today's photo is of a ceremony observing the golden jubilee of Cleveland Heights in 1971. The officials standing over the cake are from left: former Cleveland Heights Mayor Fred Stashower; Nathaniel Howard, the last editor of the Cleveland News and a contributing editor for The Plain Dealer; and former Councilman Joseph Hartzmark. Stashower and Hartzmark were among the first Jewish members on Cleveland Heights City Council. The Cleveland News, a sister paper to The Plain Dealer, ceased publication in 1960.  - source, "Cleveland Heights: The Making of an Urban Suburb" and The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History.
