90 Years in 90 Days: Doctors' Hospital

90 photos that define Cleveland Heights

Cleveland Heights officially became a city in 1921. Cleveland Heights Patch is by compiling 90 photos to create an album of the city's past and present. We'll run the feature for 90 days, one photo at a time.

Today's photo features Doctors' Hospital, which was located at 12337-49 Cedar Road. The 299-bed institution opened in 1946, after 11 years of fundraising by members of the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland. Instead of building a new hospital, the group purchased and converted an apartment building.

The building was demolished in 1969, after the institution moved to what is now Meridia Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights. - source "Encyclopedia of Cleveland History."
