Cheap Date: Patterson Fruit Farm

Escape the suburbs and spend an afternoon on the farm

Thanks for checking out our new feature. Every Friday, we will suggest one event or activity to do on the weekend that won't break the bank. Introducing Cheap Date.

You’re never too old to pick a pumpkin from a patch or an apple from a tree, so this week we suggest you head out to Patterson Fruit Farm in Geauga County. You can shop at the market for fresh, locally-grown items or visit the farms and pick your own produce. There's also a Family Fun Fest that continues until Halloween where you can get lost in the corn maze or ride on a horse-drawn wagon.

Or you don't have to buy anything at all and you can admire the beauty of the area and walk along the open paths. If you do venture into the orchards, make sure you wear shoes that you don't mind getting muddy.

If you want to go, act fast. An employee said though the market is open all year, the farm closes sometime in mid-October, it just depends on the weather and how much people pick.
