A Cleveland Heights man wanted to help his daughter pay for her wedding, so he sold one of his classic Spider-Man comic books.

The comic book, according to a story in the Plain Dealer, sold for $7,900.

Richard Schaen, 69, had collected comic books for years, many of which the article says are worth thousands. The comic book he sold, "The Amazing Spider-Man" No. 1, he bought more than 40 years ago.

He kept all his comics even after he gave up collecting them in the early 1980s.

"I put them away for a rainy day," Schaen told the newspaper. "I still bought a few comics now and then to keep my hand in, but I no longer followed all the series. There are just too many of them."

The full article has lots of great details about Schaen's collection. Read the full article at Cleveland.com.
