Patch Picks: Summer Camps

Looking for a great camp for your kids this summer? Here are five excellent choices being offered in and nearby Cleveland Heights.

1. Pavilion Fun Day Camp

Location:

Time: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Session 1: June 13 to July 1

Session 2: July 5 to July 22

Limits: 100 campers per session

This camp is designed for kids from kindergarten through fifth grade. Camp activities include swimming, arts and crafts, special events and more.

Fees: For three-week sessions (for first child in family, discounts available for multiple children per family), Rec ID holders $356, others $444. Six-week session, Rec ID holders $680, all others $854. Register through the Cleveland Heights Community Center. Before and after camp daycare available as well.

 2. Summer Ruffing It

Location:

Time: June 20 to July 29. Open to all.

Summer Ruffing It (SRI) offers programs for children ages 3-14. Children participate in various activities depending on age and grade. Summer to Grow On (ages 3-6) offers indoor games, cooking, art and storytelling. Creative Arts and Sciences (grades 1-5) offer choices in art, athletics, drama, media, movement, music and science/technology. Extreme! SRI! For grades 6-8 offers Friday field trips, music, arts, lab, science, cooking and outdoor skills classes.

3. University School 2011 Summer Camps

Location: Shaker Heights Campus, 20701 Brantley Road

University School offers K-12 coed and all-boys summer day camps, sports camps and academic enrichment classes. Camps range from baseball and soccer to Rock & Pop Songwriting.

4. Sports Camps

Location: John Carroll University, 20700 N. Park Blvd., University Heights

John Carroll offers a variety of sports camps for all ages ranging from baseball, basketball, cross country and football.

5. School Of Rock Cleveland’s Summer Camp

Location: Rocky River (20148 Detroit Road) or Highland Heights (299 Alpha Park)

Session 1: June 13-17 (Highland)

Session 2: July 11-15 (Rocky River)

Session 3: July 18-22 (Highland)

Session 4: July 25-29 (Rocky River)

Session 5: August 1-5 (Highland)

Limits: 20 musicians per session.

 This camp offers classes from professional musicians specializing in guitar, bass, vocals, keyboards and drums. Each session lasts a week and culminates in a live performance.

Fees: Early Bird (before 4/2/11), $361.25. Regular (after 4/2/11), $425.
