Dick Goddard to Be Honored at Nighttown

Book launch luncheon celebrates the beloved meteorologist's 50 years in Cleveland TV

For decades, Clevelanders have relied on Dick Goddard to tell them what kind of weather to expect the next day. And to celebrate Goddard’s remarkable career, plus help launch his new book, the Press Club of Cleveland is hosting a luncheon at on Friday.

The book, Six Inches of Partly Cloudy, is a collection of funny and touching remembrances by Goddard and by many of the people he has worked with over the years. These individuals include news anchors Tim Taylor and Robin Swoboda, and Chuck Schodowski of Big Chuck and Lil’ John fame.

“Dick Goddard is a member of our Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 2001," said Ed Byers, president of the Press Club of Cleveland. "We thought the publication of his book by Gray & Co. offered the perfect chance to have a get-together to honor his life on TV and in our community.”

Amusing behind-the-scenes stories are revealed in the book.

“For instance,” said Byers, “Dick thought he was going to be fired during his first week on the job. That’s one prediction he definitely got wrong.”

Among the many contributions Goddard, 80, has made to the community include his deep commitment to helping animals. Goddard’s proceeds from the book will be donated to various animal charities.

The luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday and is open to the public, but seating is limited and reservations are expected to go quickly. The cost is $30 for Press Club members and $40 for non-members. The price includes the luncheon, a presentation by Goddard followed by a Q&A, and a copy of the book (which can be signed by Goddard).
