Theater Preview: 'Tigers Be Still' at Dobama Theatre

The quirky comedy opens Friday

Mix together a depressive 23-year-old woman, her even more depressed family, and a roaming tiger and you have the makings of Tigers Be Still, the new show opening this week at on Lee Road.

But it may not be as much of a downer as it sounds. This play, written by Kim Rosenstock, is the regional premiere of a show that The New York Times described as “endearing.”

Sherry Wickman is a young woman with a master’s degree in art therapy and a lot of problems. She’s unemployed, her mother won’t come out of her bedroom, and her sister won’t leave the couch.

But when Sherry is hired as a substitute teacher, things only get worse because her boss is packing heat, her first therapy patient won’t cooperate and, yes, a tiger has escaped from the local zoo.

Dobama veteran Marc Moritz directs this production.
