Superintendent Change: Douglas Heuer Steps Down; New Leader Named

Douglas Heuer will be replaced on a one-year basis by Nylajean McDaniel, who currently serves as the District's Director of Human Resources and previously served as superintendent in Fairview Park.

Douglas Heuer is stepping down as superintendent of the Cleveland Heights - University Heights School District, the district announced Monday night.

Heuer will be replaced on a one-year basis by Nylajean McDaniel, who currently serves as the District's Director of Human Resources and previously served as superintendent in Fairview Park.

This announcement begins a one-year transition period for the district. Heuer plans to stay on with the district for the next year to lead the district's transition into the state's new evaluation system for teachers and principals.

Meanwhile, officials say McDaniel will provide solid leadership and give the district time to find a new, permanent superintendent.

"We are confident Dr. McDaniel will continue to provide us with stability and sound leadership,” said School Board President Ron Register.

Heuer plans to officially step down June 30.

“This marks the beginnings of a new era for our District and we are grateful for Doug Heuer’s leadership as Superintendent,” Register said.
