Mayor Ed Kelley Will Not Seek Re-Election

Mayor Ed Kelley has served on Cleveland Heights City Council since 1993, and has been mayor since 1997.

Cleveland Heights Mayor Ed Kelley said Monday he will not seek re-election.

Kelley has served on city council since 1993 and been mayor since 1997. His term expires at the end of the year.

"These last 20 years of service have been challenging, rewarding, heartbreaking and humbling," Kelley said. "There have been triumphs and disappointments."

Kelley told Cleveland Heights Patch that he's been thinking about whether to retire from council all year, and he came to the decision because he believes council has "great people who will lead the city forward."

"Some elected officials stay to long, and I don't want to be that guy," Kelley said.

After his retirement, Kelley says he plans to pursue other opportunities in politics or consulting.
