Bites Nearby: Jimmy O'Neill's Tavern

Comfortable dining with a taste of jazz

— If you like to dine with some live, mellow jazz in your ears, then consider Jimmy O’Neill’s Tavern on Lee Road.

Every Tuesday, the renowned local jazz, rag and swing pianist George Foley performs in a duo with Gene Epstein on the upright bass. It all happens in the warm and cozy confines of the Tavern’s main dining room from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Of course, there are other reasons to slide into Jimmy’s place, such as the Friday Fish Fry that features a succulent platter of Lake Erie yellow perch. The standard menu offers a wide selection of traditional American and Irish dishes, seafood and veggie entrees, plus nine different salads and a raft of sandwiches.

A visit is never complete without a taste of the famous Beet Cake, which has four ounces of beets in each slice and tastes like a warm chocolate explosion. And if you buy two dinners, one Beet Cake is on the house.

On the bar side, where there is additional table seating, you can lift a draft of Moosehead, Guinness, Harp or Dortmunder Gold, or choose from seasonal brews and full liquor service.
