CH-UH Library to Offer Home Repair Resource Center Materials

The Lee Road Library branch will stock the HRRC's home repair manuals, instructional videos and other materials

When the celebrated its 40th anniversary in June, staff and board members didn't just celebrate the milestone or reflect on past accomplishments.

They said the Cleveland Heights nonprofit and expand its services. Starting this week, the vast collection of repair how-to videos and instruction and design manuals will be available to patrons at .

Patrons can also print out HRRC handouts online that "include everything from masonry to negotiating a contractor schedule," said Chuck Collins, adult services librarian, in a press release.

, the HRRC's mission is to help those without the means maintain their homes. The videos and handouts are just a small part of what the organization offers — financial assistance, home repair training and DIY classes are also available.

"Between June 2010 and July 2011, HRRC helped 234 households make more than $510,500 worth of home repairs and provided foreclosure counseling and intervention services to more than 350 households," according to a press release from the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library about the partnership.

This isn't the first time HRRC and the library have collaborated to provide services — the HRRC also teaches at the Lee Road branch on how to perform electrical repairs, install drywall and more.

The HRRC and the library are celebrating the opening of the new space from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, where staff from both organizations will answer questions and offer tours.
