More Rain Could Cause Flooding

Storms expected to drench the already soaked ground this weekend

The ground hasn't had a chance to dry yet, and more storms are on the way.

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch until Sunday morning for Cleveland and many areas in Northeast Ohio this weekend, as rain is expected to move through the area tonight and Saturday and drench the already soaked ground. There is a chance of thunderstorms and rainfall up to 2 inches, with higher amounts possible in some areas.

The ground is already saturated, so even if there isn't heavy rain, flooding is likely along some already bloated bodies of water, according to the NWS.

That has Cleveland Heights residents like Marc Vinson concerned, as he spent the week cleaning the foot of water that flooded his basement and talking to his insurance company about the damage.

"We were lucky in the sense that we didn’t lose that much. We didn’t have that much stored where it could get wet," said Vinson.

He and other residents on Delamere Drive had knee-deep flooding along the street around 4 a.m., he said.

"I know this because neighbors had to flee their home around that time after their boiler caught fire," he said.

Cleveland Heights Police had a busy morning. Drivers who got stuck on Coventry and North Park after the Lower Lake of Shaker Lakes flooded called requesting assistance to get out, according to police call logs.

After all that rain and highs near 50 degrees, the spring-like weather will end, as snow is expected on Sunday morning, according to the NWS.
