Cleveland Heights Time Bank Exploratory Meeting

Join us to discuss the possibility of implementing a Time Bank in the Cleveland Heights area! We will gather on February 11 at 7:00 pm at the main branch of the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library (2345 Lee Rd) in Meeting Room A.

Guest speaker Leah Davis will present and share her experiences as the primary coordinator of the Akron Time Bank.

Time banking is a medium of exchange — like money, but having its own qualities. With time banking, an hour of giving help earns one credit that can be spent on receiving help. Unlike standard money, there is no price difference placed on different kinds of work. Regardless of the type of help given, an hour is an hour. The purpose of time banking is to build up communities by valuing the contributions of everyone, joining unrecognized gifts to unmet needs.

Ideas behind time banking:

1. Abundance: We all have valuable things to offer the community. When taken together, we can meet each others' needs.
2. Recognition: We need to have our contributions recognized and valued for what they are.
3. Reciprocity: We all rely on each other to offer their own gifts in grateful response to gifts received.
4. Relationships: Any work that we do should emerge from a story about how we all relate to one another, and what we each have to offer — and receive.
