Australian Jazz Guitarist Albare Brings Super Group

Nighttown welcomes jazz guitarist Albare to Cleveland. The Australian jazz star Albare (Albert Dadon) is well known Down Under for his guitar artistry and his promotion of other musicians. Now this brilliant player and impresario is touring the United States to support Long Way, his new release from prestigious German record label Enja. He brings a stellar five piece-touring group with him.

Jazz Podium magazine says Albare “sounds like a positive blend of the late Wes Montgomery and an early George Benson” and praises the guitarist for his “melodic improvisations” and “boundless grace.”

For Albare’s US tour, the band includes Hendrik Meurkens, Venezuelan drummer Pablo Bencid and fellow Australians Phil Turcio on piano and Phil Rex on bass. The band will play Albare’s original compositions (written in collaboration with Cyprus-born Australian bassist Evripides Evripidou). These sunny yet deceptively complex tunes reflect the cosmopolitan backgrounds and global-jazz aspirations of the bandleader and his sidemen.
