Laurel and Hardy Big Business meeting Nov. 10, 2013 Boneyard
Sunday Nov.10,
2013 at 5:00 Laurel and Hardy, Big Business oasis #16 meeting at
The Boneyard via: Sons of the Desert
Hi Gang,
Our next meeting will be Sunday Nov.10, 5:00pm at
the Old Mayland Theatre, now “The
Boneyard” 5900 Mayfield Road,
Mayfield Heights, OH 44124-2905
Try their baby back ribs special and a beverage to wash them
down. Laurel and Hardy enforce the
laughs 80 years ago with some more “1933”
program. We’ll continue celebrating the 40th anniversary year of Rick Greene’s founding
of our tent. We'll be in the banquet room #2 upstairs
(there is an elevator) using my media equipment. As usual there will be Intra
Tent Journals, L&H and camaraderie, all for $5.00. Fans under 12 years old are free. We also have a few of
the anniversary long sleeve t shirt (nice for the Fall), with the Sons logo on the front and the boys laughing on the back. Let me
know by Wed. Nov. 6, 2013, if you want to attend. Cheers, G.S. Flip Lauer 216-407-8468 LaurelandHardy@sbcglobal.net

WHAT’S PLAYING: ! A Big Business Tent Premier (We never ran it at any
meeting in the last 40 years) Fra Diavolo 1933 aka : The Devils Brother. It is based on Daniel
Auber's 1830 operetta Fra Diavolo about the Italian bandit Fra Diavolo.
At 90 minutes, it is the longest film Laurel and Hardy made, critically praised
and financially successful. We’ll run it as our complete program. A favorite of both comedians, Stan Laurel said he considered
this to be one of the best of the comedy team's movies and always preferred this
title over the actual US release name “The Devils Brother”. The film
represented a dream project for Hal
Roach, who had seen the play as a boy and rights being public domain was an
added incentive. The catchiest tune in the original, the "Romanze"
(or Diablo's theme) is retained and used as a center piece for some of the
funniest bits in the show.
Stan Laurel
- “You’re Spiffed” Stanlio is played by
X. The credits are listed on a scroll at the beginning of the movie. All the performers
appear to have signed their own names to the list.
