at The Boneyard via: Sons of the Desert
Hi Gang, Our next meeting will be Sunday March 2, 11:30 a.m. at the Old Mayland Theatre, now “The Boneyard” 5900 Mayfield Road, Mayfield Heights, OH 44124-2905 Try their baby back ribs special and a
beverage to wash them down. Our Laurel
and Hardy “Oscar Day of Laughs” celebrates with the final and possibly the best
of the boys films from 1933. We'll be in
the banquet room upstairs (there is an elevator) using the media equipment. You’ll
get the most recent Intra Tent Journal, L&H, camaraderie and a special gift
for each member attending, all for $5.00.
Fans under 12 years old are free. Also, there will be a special photo
session of our group for the LaurelandHardywood.com convention “Parade of Tents” presentation in
July. You’ll want to wear your special “Sons” garb for this one. I’ll bring our “Sons” logo banner and I hope
to get my hands on our “Big Business” banner for the picture. Let me know by Wed. Feb. 26, 2014, if
you want to attend. Cheers, G.S.

WHAT’S PLAYING: Sons of the Desert released Dec. 29, 1933 . Three decades after
release, this affectionate lampoon of national lodges inspired the creation of
our “International Laurel and Hardy Appreciation Society”, named after the
movie by biographer John McCabe and Stan Laurel. The line “Well, here’s another
nice mess you’ve gotten me into!” was voted as the #60 movie quote by the
American Film Institute (out of 100). In
honor of the Oscar telecast, we’ll also show The Music Box released April 16,
1932 which won the first Academy Award
for Live Action Short.
Both
films were deemed “culturally, or aesthetically significant” by the United
States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National
Film Registry.
