Between the city rushing into developing five taxpayer owned parcels for more housing and retail, and a businessperson clearing a parcel to expand his business, we're going the wrong way. Fast.

And now, anybody driving by the Lee Rd - Euclid Heights Blvd intersection can see that the rest of the Simon's service station parcel has been cleared of growing things.

I've been informed that there was a process to go through, which involved submissions to Planning and Development and to Zoning. And that there was an assessment of the current plant life, and that new trees will be planted.

Still, there was probably no public hearing or public comment required. Which may have been OK in olden times.

I get it that that parcel is privately owned. And I get it that sometimes folks want/need to remove a tree. Or two.

But if we all just turn our heads away, and say "There's nothing I can do about it" we're just digging our own graves.

We need to call on our representatives on city council to put controls on the destruction of life sustaining Green amenities in our great city. Starting with their own RFPs.

Neighborhood gardens are great. And Green groups are wonderful. But we need to change the math on this. Now.
