Architect Eric Mendelsohn and Historic Park Synagogue Featured in Weekend Community Event

Under Mendelsohn's Dome: Visions of Park Synagogue

Kick-off a weekend celebration of world-renowned architect, Eric Mendelsohn, with Sabbath services on Saturday, March 9, in the area's only Mendelsohn-designed building, Park Synagogue. Senior Rabbi Joshua Skoff will deliver an engaging sermon on "Architecture & Religious Observance." Afterwards, an exhibit of recently-discovered Mendelsohn sketches, along with letters, photos and other memorabilia will be on display. Services begin at 9:00 am; Torah service begins at approx. 9:45 am; sermon begins at approximately 10:45 am. Exhibit open from 12:15 - 3:00 pm.

Plan to return on Sunday, March 10 at 1:30 pm, for a screening of the wonderful documentary film, “Incessant Visions,” which illuminates the life of Eric Mendelsohn through letters exchanged by the architect and his wife Louise.  Following the film, hear Duki Dror, Israeli filmmaker of “Incessant Visions,” and moderator Jay Geller, Ph.D., Samuel Rosenthal Professor of Judaic Studies at CWRU, in conversation about the film. Then, take a self-guided tour of Mendelsohn’s extraordinary Park Synagogue building and view the special exhibit of Mendelsohn sketches and memorabilia. Film at 1:30 pm; tours and exhibit 3:15-5:00 pm.

All events are free and open to the community. Under Mendelsohn's Dome: Visions of Park Synagogue is presented in partnership with The Park Synagogue, Case Western Reserve University, and the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Cleveland Israel Arts Connection.
