Don't Worry About Robots; It's Dogs That'll Take Over America
Is it such a sin to refer to yourself as "Mommy" when talking to your pet? It's a subject we can add to the list with Religion and Politics. It might be better not to ask.
Adweek recently proclaimed dogs to be “The New Kids” now that it’s been 2 years since the U.S. Census found more dogs (43M) in America than children (38M). Parent or NotMom, puppyitis is hard to resist.
In comparison, real children are, well, real children, and there’s a big, big difference. Argue otherwise and sparks can fly as parents bristle and Rex’s addled owner feels misunderstood.
Personally, I only have one over-the-top, dog-loving friend. At Christmas she sends photocards of herself posing with her chihuahua and Rottweiler. It’s a one-woman flip-off to people who apparently don’t care if card recipients have never met their children; the kids are on the cover! When I first met her, this same friend spent more than $200 to get emergency care for a $7.99 parakeet.

She’s the same person who sent in the Adweek story. She really hates kid-dog comparisons. I hate to tell her she's living in one.
