NBC's Saturday Night Live keeps its finger on the pulse of the nation, they say. So, why is a sketch about women denying their dreams in order to get a man resonating?
Super-fans of NBC’s Saturday Night Live may know that in the show’s classic initial years during the 1970s, the late John Belushi led male cast members and guest hosts in disrespecting and badmouthing female comedians.
According to Jane Curtin, the pig from Animal House was a real-life swine, too. She remembered, “He said, “Women are just fundamentally not funny…He felt as though it was his responsibility to sabotage pieces that were written by women.”
Gilda Radner not funny? Was he on drugs? Oh. Why, yes, he was.

And so, I was delighted this weekend when The NY Times’ took notice of the feminine force that’s been cracking America up every Saturday night for years. Maya Rudolph. Amy Poehler. Rachel Dratch. Kristen Wiig. Tina freakin’ Fey.
The Times article opens by describing an October 2011 sketch featuring female cast members singing new lyrics to the ’60s hit “Tell Him”:

“Tell him that you don’t believe in marriage. Tell him that you don’t care if you have kids. Tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him all lies.”
The show’s host that evening, actress Anna Faris, said the song was all anyone wanted to talk about for days afterwards. ”It really resonated,” she said.
Really? Young women are still doing THAT crazy stuff? Haven’t we seen this movie before? Ladies, lie to him if you must, then tell yourself the truth and get hunting for what you truly need.
