S'mores and More 2011

a marshmallow roast

I recently about a pit our family built for the winter months to make s'mores, marshmallow roasting and occasionally a place to sit and have a cup of hot chocolate.

This year was a blast. It started with my sweet grandaughter Kima from California. She noticed that the day before she was to leave Cleveland we had a significant amount of snow, and she was so excited. Papa Jenkins dashed to the store to buy marshmallows. Kima and I grabbed the dry and clean branches to hold the marshmallows in place.

We started the fire in the pit while waiting for Papa Jenkins Kima asked if I knew of any children at home that would like to roast marshmallows with her. I remembered that I had a new neighbor with three children, one of them Kima's age. We went to the neighbor's house to invite them to the roast. Mom said yes, and asked could their cousins visiting for the holidays could come also. Of course, our reply was yes.

The firework effect you hear and see at the beginning of this video is safe. It's a family trick that my father taught me as a child. As you can see and hear, the children are very excited. It was a very festive evening. The children later retired to the Kima hotel to play "blinging Dominos". At the end of the evening every child took a large candy cane home to Mom and Dad.

We are looking forward to another evening at the Pit!
