– In just its second academic year, Nexus Academy of Cleveland began the 2013-2014 academic year with more than double the enrollment of the previous school year and with a new principal leading the way for students and staff.
Brittiany Sanford was named principal of the blended high school, located in Tyler Village near downtown Cleveland, in September. Sanford comes to Nexus Academy of Cleveland from Michigan after serving as principal and a language arts teacher at public high schools in Saginaw, Dansville, Ann Arbor and East Lansing.

Nexus Academy of Cleveland is a tuition-free, public high school that offers students a blended on-site and online academic experience with a curriculum focused on preparing students for college and beyond. Nexus Academy students have a unique learning experience where they follow an online curriculum at their own pace while receiving face-to-face interaction partnered with the personalized attention needed to help them succeed.

“As the new principal of Nexus Academy of Cleveland, I am elated to work with a caring staff that is committed to offering our students a cutting edge educational experience. The blended learning environment is truly unique giving students the best of both worlds,” Sanford said. “As an educator, it is has always been my personal goal to serve in excellence. With educational experience in Michigan as a personal tutor, classroom teacher, and high school principal, I am more than excited to be working in the Cleveland community.”
Sanford earned a Master’s degree in K-12 Administration, a Bachelor’s degree in English, and a teaching certification fromMichigan State University. Sanford’s work has included analyzing data to enhance the student’s learning by using self-assessments and teacher progress tracking. She has also studied the utilization of data to track and analyze reading fluency and comprehension.
