Blended education paves a path for 21st century learners

As an educator at Nexus Academy of Cleveland, I see firsthand how the blended academic model—in which students learn online and on-site—is a worthwhile academic model for our modern-day learners.

Integrating state-of-the-art online learning technology in a traditional brick-and-mortar setting, this hybrid format addresses the individual needs of students and encompasses the current methodologies of education—all while retaining the benchmarks and standards educators strive to impart.

The self-discipline required to succeed in a blended public high school like Nexus Academy of Cleveland develops a skill set in students that includes time management, setting priorities, and accomplishing short term goals, resulting in building positive self-esteem and maturity for a well-rounded individual.

Our blended environment enables students to work through the subject matter at their own pace with the support of licensed teachers specifically trained in blended learning and Success Coaches. Each Nexus Academy of Cleveland student is counseled to reflect on their personal goals, learning styles, gifts, lifestyle, health and well-being, passions, and values in order to align themselves with their career and post-secondary academic decisions. Therefore one significant advantage of blended learning is that it eases the transition from high school to post-secondary education and the workforce.

My goal as a blended education instructor is to teach the objectives within my subject area and to nurture the individual development of each student, ultimately fostering and developing the necessary traits to become lifelong learners.

From my perspective, the success of a blended learning environment depends on the quality of face-to-face instruction by licensed educators and accredited virtual curriculum. The opportunities for collaboration with instructors and peers provide educational advancements that keep students engaged.

There is no greater learning experience than paving your own path. The blended model enables educators to adjust and adapt their academic methodologies to meet the needs of students. Our goal is to make certain our 21st century learners are prepared and on track for the challenges they will face in the future.
