Patch Picks: Top Spots to Watch the Super Bowl

Starting today, Cleveland Heights Patch will run a new weekly feature called Patch Picks, highlighting editor and reader picks of great local businesses, destinations, services, organizations, ways to spend a day off and more.  You’ll find useful lists to help you, your family, friends and significant others find the best places for everything from Sunday brunch to New Year’s Eve celebrations, pumpkin patches, date night destinations, florists, girlfriend nights out, kids' party places, parks and more.

The List: Best Places to Watch the Super Bowl (and the Commercials) 

We visited bars around town and asked managers and owners why their watering hole was the best place to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Green Bay Packers Sunday. Check out our top picks below, and make sure you arrive a few hours before kickoff at 6:30 p.m. 

While most bars offer light beer specials, Cedar Lee Pub is pouring 16-ounce Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold for $3.50 and the 22-ounce glasses for $5. Six wings are $2.99 on game day, and you can celebrate your team’s touchdowns (or your least-favorite team's fumbles) with $3 Washington apple shots. As always, the menu features 30 different burgers and Shaun Bosko, general manager, recommends the soft pretzels.

The Winking Lizard is serving its Sunday specials on game day for those who are looking for something more than potato skins. Customers have a 12-ounce strip steak served with steak fries, coleslaw and garlic bread for $12.99 or a barbecue half chicken with fries and coleslaw for $6.79 to choose from. As always, Winking Lizard’s famous wings and other appetizers will be served, the popcorn is free and a 32-ounce Miller Lite is $4 game day. You’ll be able to watch from the bar or a table.

The Super Bowl won’t be the only game at Panini’s in Coventry on Sunday. Get there early and stay after the game for sports trivia. Specials include $6 pitchers and pizza, $3 gummy bear shots and soft pretzels for $1.50. With seven 50-inch screens and two 80-inch screens, you’ll have no trouble seeing the big game.

Just like every Sunday, anything except top-shelf drinks are $2, and 16-ounce cans of Coors Light are $2 on game day. The bar features appetizers and comfort food like wings, fries, burgers and sub sandwiches, and television screens surround the space. Customers can also order calzones, even though they aren’t on the menu yet. 

Stop by The Fairmount if you’re looking for “all business as usual,” said owner Tom Mullady. Craft brews, cocktails and candles will set the atmosphere, not the game, but it will be on for sports fans in the neighborhood. Watch the game, or snack on cheese and wine away from the screens.
