following up on why there isn't more of a plan to the plan...

So, why isn’t there more of a plan?

In addition to the financial constraints of a lack of a budget, there is one more really excellent reason that we don’t have a concrete plan.

The LFC recommendations, adopted by the School Board, call for the architects to conduct a series of iterative design charettes to elicit and incorporate the community’s best thinking on the details of the design.  These open meetings are expected to begin shortly after the passage of the bond levy once the architects have been selected.  (More about the selection process in a post to follow.)  These meetings will provide a way for anyone who wants to be heard to provide their guidance on what should or should not be incorporated, on their views of what would constitute best practices, etc.  The district has pledged to allow opportunities for staff from all areas to give their input. (Who knows our buildings better than our custodians?  Who knows better than our teachers what little inconveniences make their jobs harder than they need to be, or what small tweaks might yield better outcomes for our kids?)   If you know something the architects should consider, this will be your opportunity to share it with them so we can get this right. So the administration has committed to listening to all of our voices before they adopt specific physical plans.  Personally, I think that’s a good call.
