Cleveland Heights Man Charged With Tax Fraud

A Cleveland Heights man who operated a tax preparation business was charged with filing fraudulent income tax returns for his clients, and will appear in court Thursday.

Curtis McLemore, who operated McLemore and Associates and Personal Services, is being accused of reporting inflated amounts of income for 13 clients that totaled more than $50,000 more in tax returns than what they were actually owed, said Craig Casserly, spokesperson for the Criminal Investigation Division of the IRS, by email.

The 39 fraudulent tax documents span four years, from 2004 to 2008, according to the IRS. How much McLemore is being accused of profiting from the bogus returns is still being investigated, Casserly said by email.

The arraignment will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Judge Benita Y. Pearson’s court in Youngstown.
