Cleveland Heights Police Chief Jeffrey Robertson and University Heights Police Chief Steven Hammett will meet with residents at at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 20 as part of the Speaker Series.
The chiefs will discuss new initiatives, how they work with other departments in the area and how citizens can help improve safety in their communities. The event is free, but FutureHeights asks that attendees RSVP here.
Robertson took over for longtime Chief Martin G. Lentz in and has been with the Cleveland Heights force for more than 30 years.
Since taking over, he has started a , launched the weekly where residents can informally discuss concerns with members of the department and created department and pages.
He has said in past interviews with Cleveland Heights Patch that these initiatives are part of his goals to enhance the department's relationship with citizens and encourage community policing.
Hammett was appointed police chief of University Heights in August 2011, according to an article in The Sun Press. He previously served as deputy chief in Shaker Heights and also worked as a patrolman, sergeant, lieutenant and captain in the department, according to a flier about the event at MYXX.
He also has roots in Cleveland Heights — he attended the police academy and started his career on the force.
