A large house fire at the 1700 block of Glenmont Rd. last weekend is not related to four other nearby suspicious fires that occurred during the summer, the Cleveland Heights Fire Department said.
Steve Martin, the city’s fire inspector, said no one was hurt. The cause of Saturday’s fire is undetermined but is thought to have stemmed from an electrical problem.
“This summer we had four fires that were suspicious. We were concerned that this might also be an intentionally set fire, but it was not,” Martin said.

The summer fires happened in the nearby Belmar, Eddington and Mayfield areas.
Two families live at the Glenmont address, but no one was home at the time of the fire. The entire back half of the home was burned out.

A firefighter fell through a floor and was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and later released.
Martin said a neighbor called in the fire at 10:53 p.m., and firefighters had noticed smoke coming from a second-floor window and the roof. This indicated the fire had been burning for some time before the initial call. The fire began on the first floor and burned through the second and third floors.
