Hearing for Suspect in California Synagogue Bombing Scheduled for Wednesday

Ron Hirsch will appear in U.S. District Court in Cleveland

California synagogue bombing suspect Ron Hirsch is in custody with the FBI and will appear in U.S. District Court in Cleveland at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, the FBI and the Santa Monica Police Department announced this afternoon. 

Hirsch is being charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. Hirsch has been linked to the blast outside of the Santa Monica synagogue Chabad House Lubavitch, and was .

Hirsch had bought a New York-bound Greyhound bus ticket in Los Angeles, which was due to arrive Sunday and make 10 stops along the way. He used the alias J. Fisher.

Hirsch went to the Kollel Torah L.I.F.E. building on South Taylor Road Sunday looking for a place to stay, said

A "concerned citizen" from the facility called police about Hirsch after he came back Monday, according to the Cleveland Heights Police Department. 

Elliot said he appeared to be an "innocent old soul," and was studying with everyone else. But his outfit was unusual. He sported "beach clothes" instead of the traditional black suit that most in the room were wearing. 

Cleveland Heights Police arrived just before 7 p.m. Monday and arrested him. He was held in the department's jail and released to the FBI at 3 p.m. today. 

The FBI is still investigating why he stopped in Cleveland Heights, said Scott Wilson, FBI spokesperson. 

After his hearing, he will most likely be transported back to Los Angeles.
